Overview
About this tour
A standard Elbrus programme spends 6–7 days acclimatising to altitude. With this tour you do not need to: you climb breathing oxygen, so you feel no lack of it and, if needed, can even receive more oxygen than you get at sea level by adjusting the flow. That is why you often move faster and more easily than many acclimatised climbers who go without oxygen.
It is also safe: acclimatisation is replaced by oxygen, and your instructor carries a full spare set (a 4-litre cylinder, mask and regulator) in case anything fails. Each participant gets two individual oxygen sets, and one instructor works with every two climbers.
Because the climb is easier than even the simplest standard Elbrus programmes, it suits people of below-average fitness, older travellers, people carrying extra weight and children from 12 years old — as long as there are no medical contraindications to heavy physical exertion. You arrive, go up to the hut at 3,900 m the same day, and make your summit push in the early hours of the next.
- Reach 5,642 m with no multi-day acclimatisation — you climb breathing oxygen
- Two individual oxygen sets per climber, plus a full spare set carried by the instructor
- Snowcat ride up to 4,600–5,100 m, then only 600–1,042 m on foot to the summit
- Starts any day of the year; all mandatory gear is included
- Open to people of average fitness and to children from 12

Itinerary
Weather may change the order of days; your guide always has a reserve plan.
- Day1
Meet at Mineralnye Vody, up to the high-altitude hut
3,900 mOur representative meets you at Mineralnye Vody airport and drives you to our Pyatigorsk office (20–25 minutes). Land no later than 08:30 so that there is time to collect all the gear and clothing. Meet your guide, then drive to Azau, at the foot of Elbrus, and take the cable car to Garabashi station (3,900 m). From there it is a short walk (about 200 m) to the high-altitude "National Park" hut. After check-in and lunch you check your kit and prepare, and in the evening practise crampon technique, ice-axe self-arrest and fixed ropes. Dinner and an early night.
- Day2
Summit day — Elbrus, 5,642 m
5,642 mWe wake at midnight and spend 90 minutes getting ready, eating and preparing. At 02:00 we set off, using the oxygen equipment from the start. A snowcat takes us up to 4,600–5,100 m depending on the condition of the slope, and then we continue on foot; 600–1,042 m of climbing remain to the summit. The whole climb is done in an oxygen mask, which you can take off for a summit photo; a cylinder lasts about 10 hours. The ascent takes 3–6 hours and the descent about 2. Your instructor always has a complete spare set: a 4-litre cylinder, mask and regulator. Back at the hut we take the cable car down to Azau and transfer to Pyatigorsk, where you return the rental gear and receive your certificate. A transfer to the airport ends the programme.

FAQ
Good to know
Is it safe to climb Elbrus without acclimatising?
Climbing without acclimatisation is dangerous, but in this programme that risk is removed because you breathe oxygen the whole way. Your instructor carries a full spare set in case any equipment fails or a cylinder runs out: a 4-litre cylinder, a mask and a regulator.
Who is this climb for?
It is easier than even the simplest standard Elbrus programme, so it works for people of below-average fitness, older travellers, people carrying extra weight and children from 12. The only requirement is that you have no medical contraindications to heavy physical exertion.
When can I go, and how does booking work?
You can go on any day of the year, individually (groups of 1–4 people). The price per person is lower when two to four people climb together, and from 11 September to 30 April it is higher because the snowcat costs more in the cold season. You hold your date with a deposit of ≈ €350, which counts towards the total and is non-refundable if you cancel, but can be transferred to any other tour. The balance is paid just before the tour.
How do I get there on day 1?
Fly into Mineralnye Vody (MRV) — we meet you there and drive you to our Pyatigorsk office in 20–25 minutes. You must land by 08:30 at the latest so that you have time to collect your gear and clothing before heading to Azau and the cable car. If you prefer to arrive the day before, a standard 3-star room at the Intourist hotel in Pyatigorsk costs ≈ €65 a night.
Can I upgrade my night on the mountain?
Yes. For an extra charge you can spend the night in the Leprus hut, one of the best on the mountain: comfort accommodation is about ≈ €90 and economy about ≈ €55 in April–June (slightly more in July–August).
